This was a great pep talk to come back from vacation too! One thing I’ve become more diligent about paying attention to since the hurricane/election pod episodes came out is what emotional reaction online content is aiming to elicit from me. This has made it so much easier to disengage from unhelpful and inflammatory content. And thanks for the content recs - I also like Ohh that’s RICH (@ohhthatsrich). His background is in political journalism and I think he does a good job of balancing timely content with context that doesn’t aim to emotional flood his audience.

I also think long form content on this topic would be great given the state of, well…everything. A full pod episode and/or downloadable guide would be great for sharing. I have a feeling that by this coming fall semester my students are going to need all the help they can get staying upright so I’ve been working on building a resource bank and would love to add something like this for them.

I love Rich!! He is also a great resource. Thanks for mentioning him. And the episode today is top tier. Matthew was an incredible resource and gave us some incredible insight of how to manage all of this insanity. Tell me your thoughts if you have the chance to listen!!

Love! More of this content please! Another aspect is the feeling when I put my own phone down but see everyone around me on their phone. I also have some friends that are chronically online and others that don’t have social media at all and navigating relationships along the spectrum. Almost like jumping between two worlds.

“This size of the spider” while I feel this to my core, I also think this is relatable to this topic! The size of social media is meant to distract and make us anxious. Such a great reminder!

The spider could not be ignored 😭 and you are absolutely correct, that is a perfect metaphor. It’s important to bring perspective to these systems.
